The art of the piazza in summertime
A piazza in summertime is deftly accented with the light scent of jasmine. It is enjoyed with a cool sip of sweet tea. The quiet noise of a bustling city is heard, but not seen from your seat under the eaves. Hidden in our courtyard, our three historic piazzas offer the chance to look out into the city from the shade of your chaise lounge.
At Zero George Street, we like to think of ourselves as connoisseurs of all facets of Charleston, especially the architecturally renowned piazza. Pronounced pee-AZ-ah, the Charleston landmark first appeared in 1730. While the origins of the piazza are contentious and oft debated, it is no matter to us. In Charleston, piazzas are evocative of a way of life. At Zero George Street, we have three distinctly different piazzas each offering the traditional privacy of old Charleston with the modern touches of our boutique hotel.
As a luxury hotel in downtown Charleston, we find the best way to enjoy summertime is on one of our three piazzas. Don’t worry, we won’t ask for a history lesson or proper pronunciation. We only ask that you experience true luxury in the form of a setting summer sun and a glass of Pippin Hill Sparkling Rosé. We invite guests onto our piazza in hopes that we may offer a unique view into life in Charleston. Make our piazza your own. Let the sounds of Pink Martini Jazz envelope you as your enjoy a hand crafted cocktail and succulently sweet summer time tomatoes from the Zero Café + Bar. We hope the Piazza helps you find time to read a book, smell the freesia, and appreciate Charleston for it’s slower pace.
