Nickie Cutrona | Photography Package
Nickie is a Charleston native, and graduate of Rocky Mountain School of Photography. Nickie has traveled all over the United States during her tenure as a photographer, and we are delighted that she has decided to share her craft with us.
We had the opportunity to catch up with Nickie for a quick Q&A:
What do you like most about being a photographer?
I love the connection that photography has created for me with people and places all over the world. I also really love the creative outlet that photography provides for me. Some of my best work is from spaces that I have visited over and over and studied in different light, weather, times of day, and even times of the year. I create an image in my mind of what I am looking for and then go back and make my picture. I really enjoy the process.
Tell me about your favorite shooting location in the Charleston area.
My favorite locations to shoot are the sea islands that surround peninsular Charleston, namely Wadmalaw Island where I live. It’s unique blend of rural farmland, marsh, and historical relevance is unlike any place on earth. It is a small island but the energy speaks volumes to me. It’s unspoiled characteristics make it a photographer’s paradise…but I can’t say too much because it is a secret slice of heaven!
Can you share a photo that you have taken that you think perfectly captures the city of Charleston?
This photo was taken on June 18, the day after the Charleston shooting at Mother Emanuel. I think it perfectly captures city. It portrays truth and rawness, resilience and forgiveness, and that we still have a lot to work on.
You have 24 hours in the Holy City- where are you going?
24 hours in Charleston, get out on the water! Either on a fishing or sailing charter or befriend a local with a boat because Charleston has to be seen by water. Cruise out to Folly Beach to check out the quirkiness of “The Edge of America” and stop by Bert’s for a snack. Go feel the magic of the Angel Oak and on your way home be sure to stop by the Pour House for some free live music on the deck. Finish it off with sunset drinks on a rooftop downtown and a nice dinner at one of the many amazing restaurants.
Contact the concierge team to set up a 3 or 5 hour photography tour, or a 1-on-1 lesson with Nickie. We can’t wait to get out there and start shooting!
